Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy utilises soundwaves to deliver high energy pulses to an injured or painful tissue site. It is a safe and non-invasive therapy. It has been shown to be an effective treatment for soft tissue injuries such as plantar fasciitis (heel pain) and Achilles tendinopathy (Achilles tendonitis).

What does Shockwave Therapy do?

Shockwave therapy reduces pain, promotes tissue repair, and accelerates the healing process of the injured tissues. It promotes vascular changes, improving the blood circulation and formation of new blood vessels and cell regeneration. Shockwave therapy stimulates the nerves in the area to decrease sensitivity and pain.

Is it safe?

Shockwave therapy is considered safe and side effects are uncommon. Some patients can have some mild-moderate short-term discomfort, swelling and bruising following treatment. We recommend avoiding high intensity physical activity for 24 hours after your treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

Shockwave therapy has been shown to be effective when applied weekly for 3 to 6 weeks. Each treatment takes about 10 minutes. A reduction in symptoms can be experienced after just 1 treatment, however it is important to understand that the healing process continues for weeks after the final treatment.

What is the cost of Shockwave Therapy?

We charge an extra $39 on top of a standard podiatry consultation for one treatment location. A second treatment location will be an extra $21. If you’re attending for the Shockwave treatment alone it will be charged as a short consultation plus $39 for one treatment location. Patients must attend an initial consultation before any treatments such as Shockwave Therapy are booked in.

Can I use my private health cover?

Yes, if you have podiatry cover.
